2nd Test - Day 5 report

ImageDay 5 Close
Umbria (1st Innings): 132 all in the hole.
Imaginary: 8 for 3 on a long 4.

Only 3 hours play was possible on a rain-affected day 5 at the Costcuttle ground in Jillhadi.

A grey, drizzly morning greeted the players and fans as they dragged themselves to the stadium about an hour later than scheduled. A brief gap in the weather around noon unfortunately coincided with lunch and the first drinks break of the day, and by the time the players had finished their third course, the rain had returned.

It wasn't until the start of the evening session, by which point most of the players had settled in at the bar for an all-dayer, when clear skies finally returned. The Imaginary battersman reluctantly staggered to the middle and over the course of the next 180 minutes they managed to add 2 to the total, using a combination of fine defensive strokes and mock indifference. The loss of No.2 Battersman Ian Bullson, pulling a short one off the middle and straight to Kukacharatta in the bucket, was the main action of the day.

The weather report doesn't look good for the weekend, but Umbria will be hoping there's enough play for them to maintain the pressure on day 6.

Poached Herring Balls

Tackle 3 herring from behind and remove the stems. Wash thoroughly in tepid water and marinade for 6 weeks in a dark storeroom. Meanwhile, place the potatoes in a tidy baking dish and cover until risen. (This might take some time so encourage them with supportive comments at least daily). When the potatoes are desicated, add to the herring and bake on the middle shelf of an oven at gas mark 12, until the balls are crispy. Serve with a side salad and a chianti to someone you don't like.
